Certe Wodan, nec literaturae, vel facundiae, nec negotiationi Germanorum praefuit. Nec Dorum nuntius, eoqueve multo inferior, non Iove solum, sed cunctis Saturni liberis: verum summus Deus universi praeses iis habitus est. Iis enim Wodan sive Woden idem fuit, ac Guodan seu Guode, pro quo Gode vel God nunc dicimus. Quod si itaque Deorum maxime Mercurium Germanis cultum esse, scribit Tac. de Morib. Germ. c. 9.
